A Saturday in Boston

Last weekend I randomly decided to take the T into the city and just walk around and take some pictures. I took one lens, an 85mm f/1.8, and just wanted to see what I could get. The weather has been great lately, let’s hope it stays this way. Most of it is architecture/random shots. I never know what to take pictures of when I’m walking around the city, maybe one day I’ll get enough courage to ask random people for portraits. Keep reading to see some of the pictures I took!

Boston Massachussetts Obama Campaign

Early on in 2010, Massachusetts faced a pivotal senate race. President Barack Obama visited Northeastern University on Sunday, January 27th to campaign for democratic senate candidate Martha Coakley. I don’t usually associate myself with politics, but I attended this event as part of the White House Press Pool to capture a few images. Check out some of my images from Martha Coakley’s campaign!

Virginia Tech, Champions of the 2009 Chick-fil-A Bowl

Since graduating I haven’t had many opportunities to travel around taking pictures. That changed this winter when I was invited to shoot the 2009 Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, GA. The Virginia Tech Hokies were playing the Tennessee Volunteers, and I was able to take a few days off from my real job to go on a little ‘vacation.’ I was back again thanks to Planet Blacksburg and had a blast shooting the game. Keep reading to see some of the pictures from my trip.

Head of the Charles Regatta 2009

Here I am in Boston, and I’ve never even heard of this thing. Apparently it’s the largest Regatta in the world! Someone told me about the race at one of our camera club meetings, luckily I remembered the date and woke up early enough to catch some of the action. It doesn’t look that cold, but it was actually snowing a bit during the morning. Packed my 300mm f/2.8L IS and headed out to Harvard Square to see what I could get.

Long Exposure in Downtown Boston at Night

So I graduated in May 2009 with my BSEE and had to make some tough choices regarding jobs, but I settled on an offer from a FFRDC based in the Boston area. I’d never visited New England before moving here (besides interviewing…) and had a bit of a hectic time finding an apartment, but I’m happy with the way things turned out. During the end of summer and beginning of fall I took my camera with me almost everywhere, so here’s a collection of some of the places I visited in the area so far.

Hokies take the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl

“Bringing it back” with my first experiences post, and giving myself the chance to catch up and document some of the work I’ve done on various trips. First up was a day long drive to Fort Lauderdale, FL with a pit stop in Charleston, SC to see the Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball team take on Charleston Southern. After that it was an overnight drive to the Miami area, where we were just a few days away from my first bowl game – the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl.
